Dr Pablo Barreiro takes over as head of the "Decommissioning, Waste Management and Radiation Protection" specialist group

With many years of experience in nuclear planning and materials engineering, Pablo has extensive expertise in the areas of decommissioning, material integrity and safety analyses.

After completing his doctorate at the Institute of Materials Science at the University of Karlsruhe (TH), Dr Barreiro worked as a research assistant before moving to EnBW in 2007. There he worked as a senior engineer for materials and welding technology at the Philippsburg nuclear power plant and was responsible for ageing management and damage analyses, among other things.

He then took on management positions in materials engineering and additive manufacturing at SEW-Eurodrive and as head of a materials laboratory at the Argentinian Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, where his responsibilities included managing and finalising the project to extend the operating life of the Atucha nuclear power plant. Since 2022, he has been Head of Nuclear Engineering Planning and an authorised signatory at Safetec GmbH, where his responsibilities include developing new business areas and managing an engineering team.

With his expertise and leadership experience, Dr Barreiro will enrich the specialist group with new impulses and actively shape the further development of innovative solutions in the field of decommissioning, waste disposal and radiation protection.
