On 11 November 2022, the lecture series of the KTG specialist group Operation and Safety was continued online with the current lecture Der Streckbetrieb das Eigenleben eines Fachbegriffs im öffentlichen Diskurs. This time, the lecture was organised with the support of PreussenElektra GmbH and given by their employees from Hanover, Dr Kai Kosowski and Dr Marcus Seidl. Briefly about the speakers:
- Kai Kosowski holds a degree in mechanical engineering and a doctorate in thermodynamics from the Technical University of Braunschweig. He has been working as a nuclear safety engineer at PreussenElektra GmbH since 2009. He has a wide range of experience in the field of safety analyses with a focus on pressurised water reactors under normal and abnormal operating and shutdown conditions.
- Marcus Seidl received his diploma in physics from the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and subsequently completed his doctorate at the University of Mainz. After working at TÜV Süd and Framatome Advanced Nuclear Fuels, he has been working in the Fuel Element Utilisation and Disposal department at PreussenElektra GmbH since 2006.
With more than 120 participants from Germany, Austria, Sweden and Switzerland, it was a very successful event, which also left many more questions unanswered about the possible continued operation of convoy systems. The basics of plug-in operation were explained, differences to public perception were illustrated and it was also shown that it has long been part of proven system operation and has often been successfully practised by various systems in the past.
With hindsight, it is now also possible to look back on the extended line operation, which was successfully planned by all Konvoi plants with the support of Framatome and realised by 15 April 2023. New benchmarks have been set worldwide in the nuclear industry in terms of extended operation time and fuel utilisation.
