Sparkling clean or back to zero - that is the goal of chemical decontamination in nuclear facilities.

The removal of radioactive deposits, the reduction of contamination and the dose rate form the basis for

  • safe Maintenance measures,
  • an efficient Dismantling and above all
  • a successful new start as part of a Term extension of nuclear power plants of different designs.

The focus here is on Full System Decontamination (FSD)Comprehensive decontamination of the primary circuit and relevant auxiliary systems.

The presentation will provide insights into the planning and engineering of such measures, highlight potential effects and their targeted mitigation and show which methods can be used for justification and optimisation. Using practical examples, successful FSD projects will be presented - and it will be shown how innovative approaches, sound expertise and lessons learnt can set the course for safe and successful implementation.

Dr Christian Topf provides insights into planning, implementation and experiences from successful FSD projects worldwide.
