The benefits of nuclear energy in the German energy transition<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Nuclear energy is far too expensive and would in any case come too late to make an effective contribution to the German energy transition, which aims to achieve climate neutrality in Germany by 2045. If there is no recognisable benefit, then it would of course be irresponsible to take even the smallest risk or generate a waste disposal problem.<\/span><\/p>

But is the premise correct? Is nuclear power really too expensive and can it really not make a contribution due to time constraints?<\/span><\/p>

There is a whole series of studies in which scenarios for a climate-neutral energy supply are developed and optimised. As none of these studies include nuclear energy in their considerations - after all, the nuclear phase-out is a legal requirement - neither its cost disadvantages nor the excessively long implementation period have been proven.<\/span><\/p>

This prompted us to commission a scientific study in which, for the first time, a power supply based solely on renewable energy sources was compared with a system optimised using nuclear energy.<\/span><\/p>

The results show that there would be considerable cost benefits associated with the use of nuclear energy. In terms of deadlines, it is becoming apparent that although the goal of greenhouse gas neutrality by 2045 is unlikely to be achievable even with nuclear energy, it could enable a considerable shortcut on the way there.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>
