Radioactive waste has been a hotly debated topic in Europe for years. This lecture aims to get to the bottom of some of the myths surrounding the subject. What actually is radioactive waste? What is currently happening with radioactive waste? What treatment options are in operation and what are the options for final disposal?<\/p>

In this presentation, examples from various countries in Europe will be used to discuss how radioactive waste can be handled differently. Not only countries with comparatively large waste inventories will be analysed, but also the problems of countries with small inventories.<\/p>

Speaker<\/span><\/strong><\/p>

Dr Eileen Langegger<\/a> completed her doctorate in 2020 in the field of dispersion calculations following severe accidents at the research reactor in Vienna. She also headed the European Nuclear Society - Young Generation, and is active in the European Nuclear Society and on the board of various international organisations in the field of nuclear energy. Since 2023, she has been Senior Engineer at DMT GmbH & Co. KG, where she is jointly responsible for various research projects. Prior to that, she worked at Nuclear Engineering Seibersdorf for 10 years, where she was responsible for the interim storage facility for radioactive waste in Austria, among other things. Since 2017, she has also been a lecturer in the field of nuclear energy at TU Vienna and TU Graz.<\/span><\/p>
