Dear KTG members,<\/p>

<\/p>

On 21 July 2023, the online lecture series of the KTG specialist group \"Operation and Safety\", which was launched during the pandemic, was continued with the current lecture \"Nuclear programmes in Europe\" by Mr Uwe Stoll, technical-scientific managing director of the Gesellschaft f\u00fcr Anlagen- und Reaktorsicherheit (GRS). This time, the lecture was organised with the kind support of Framatome GmbH and held as a hybrid event in Erlangen. Briefly about the speaker:<\/p>

Speaker: <\/u><\/p>

Dipl.-Ing. Uwe Stoll worked for Siemens KWU and AREVA from 1990 to 2016 and was most recently Head of the \"Engineering & Projects\" unit at Areva GmbH, specialising in the following areas: Safety and accident control concepts as well as accident analyses for boiling and pressurised water reactors, investigation and evaluation of events in NPPs and commissioning of reactors. Among other things, he has been a member of the RSK since 2010, head of the RSK's \"Electrical Installations\" committee and President of ETSON (European Technical Safety Organisation Network).<\/p>

Contents:<\/u><\/p>

The debate on CO2 reduction and the war in Ukraine has led to a repositioning of nuclear energy utilisation in many European countries. The presentation provided an overview of the current status of the planning and realisation of nuclear energy projects in all European countries. The focus was on \"large\" NPPs as well as SMRs and research reactors.<\/p>

<\/p>

With almost 100 online participants and around 50 visitors in attendance, including interested listeners from outside the industry, it was a very successful event. One of the main topics of the question and answer session was SMRs, their economic viability, realisation opportunities and the associated possibility of cooperation between European regulators for the purpose of joint licensing. The T<\/span>hema Fusion and the participation of German engineers and companies in this topic, as well as nuclear opportunities for Germany in the future, were also of interest to the audience. A small standing reception on Friday evening provided an opportunity to continue the discussions on the development of nuclear technology in Europe.<\/span><\/p>
