Against the backdrop of the second major generational change in the history of German nuclear technology, young scientists and junior staff from nuclear technology professions joined forces in 1991 to form the\u00a0Young generation<\/strong>\u00a0within the KTG. The later formulated motto ...communicative... integrative... professionally competent... serves as a guiding principle for the younger generation today.<\/p>

A primary goal of this group is the integration of young professionals in nuclear engineering professions and the strengthening of their professional expertise. For example, an annual conference is organised at nuclear or energy technology companies. This conference is very popular because interested young professionals and students can make their first contacts within our industry. These connections are often long-lasting and very friendly. They are also extremely helpful later on when professional experience and information is exchanged in later professional life.<\/p>

Beyond the radius of Germany-wide campaigns, the Young Generation is firmly integrated into the activities of the Young Generation Network within the European Nuclear Society. Here, experiences are exchanged at European level and joint actions are coordinated, e.g. on the occasion of the world climate conferences.<\/p><\/div>

The Advisory Board is responsible for coordinating scientific and professional dialogue within the KTG with regard to the specialist groups. It coordinates the organisation and documentation of information events. In addition, the Advisory Board is responsible for the following tasks in particular:<\/p>

a) the submission to the General Meeting of a function-related overall election proposal for the respective positions to be filled on the Board of Directors,
b) the support of the Management Board and

There are specialised subdivisions within the KTG, the so-called specialist groups. Specialist cooperation between the members of the KTG takes place in these groups.<\/p>

The specialist groups deal with key topics in nuclear technology and related specialist areas. Lectures, excursions and get-togethers are organised regularly to promote the exchange of experience and networking among members.<\/p>

There are also other subdivisions, sections with a geographical focus and the Young Generation for members up to the age of 40.<\/p>

While membership of sections (regional subdivisions) and the Young Generation is determined by age, members inform the Executive Board in writing which specialist groups they would like to belong to. The specialised group\u00a0<\/a>International development of innovative reactor systems<\/em>\u00a0summarises all activities relating to the development, validation and application of methods for the research, development and evaluation of advanced (so-called Gen. III\/III+), innovative (Gen. IV) and small modular reactors (SMR) and establishes and maintains contacts with the Sustainable Nuclear Energy Platform (SNETP), Nuclear Generation II&III Association (NUGENIA), European Sustainable Nuclear Industrial Initiative (ESNII) and the Nuclear Cogeneration Industrial Initiative (NC2I), among others. The group's activities will focus on the work carried out in Germany in this field. The new specialist group aims to provide a concrete overview of what German organisations are contributing to this topic.<\/p>

The new specialist group deals with the thermodynamic and hydraulic properties, behaviour and special features of coolants other than light water. These include heavy and supercritical water, gases, liquid metals and molten salts. However, the new specialist group will not limit itself exclusively to thermohydraulic topics, but will also keep an eye on other issues relevant to these reactor concepts (e.g. neutron kinetics, structural mechanics, etc.).<\/p>

This new thematic focus appears to be meeting with keen interest among KTG members. Well over 200 members of the KTG have expressed their interest in participating and registered as members of the specialist group at the end of last year.<\/p><\/div>

The\u00a0<\/span>Nuclear Fusion Division<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>represents the concerns of KTG members who are committed to researching and utilising nuclear fusion as a sustainable energy source.<\/p>

Most of the members of the Nuclear Fusion specialist group have also worked in the field of nuclear fission during the course of their careers and do not see themselves as competitors to this technology; rather, they see themselves as a link between conventional nuclear engineers and their colleagues in plasma physics research, most of whom feel more connected to scientific structures.<\/p><\/div>

The\u00a0<\/span>Decommissioning and waste disposal specialist group\u00a0<\/strong>was merged with the Radiation Protection specialist group and is currently dormant. <\/span><\/p>

The specialist group's objectives are the dismantling of nuclear facilities, licensing and clearance procedures, waste management, the interim storage of radioactive materials (LAW\/MAW\/HAW) and radiological characterisation. It also deals with all principles and types of topics within the task of radiation protection.<\/p><\/div>
